上海市社会学学会成立于1979年9月19日，是由上海社会学科研单位、高校、党校以及社会各界从事社会学研究和教学的学者与实际工作者自愿组成的地方性、学术性的非赢利的社会团体。
学会设有党的工作小组、学会理事会、学会学术委员会、学会调查研究部、学会秘书处。学会下设社会学理论与教学、体育社会学、产业社会学、外国社会学、法律社会学、青年社会学、性社会学、城市社会学、生活方式研究、文艺社会学、住宅社会学、外国社会学、人类学、企业形象策划等13个专业研究分支。
上海市社会学学会的宗旨是以马克思列宁主义、毛泽东思想、邓小平理论、“三个代表”重要思想、习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想为指导，团结和组织上海地区的社会学教学和科研工作者，以及广大的社会工作者，努力繁荣和发展中国的社会学，为社会主义两个文明建设服务。
上海市社会学学会的业务范围是研究社会学理论与社会的实际问题，组织调查研究和学术研讨，举办讲座，开办咨询活动，为社会各界服务。近年来社会学会的学者在社会学理论、社会学方法、家庭婚姻、生活质量、社会保障、社会工作、城市发展、青少年研究、老年研究、社区研究、社会问题研究等方面取得了一批高质量的研究成果。
Shanghai Sociological Association was founded on September 19, 1979 as a local, academic and non-profit social organization. It was voluntarily formed by scholars and practitioners engaged in sociological research and teaching from sociological research institutes, colleges , universities, party schools and so on in Shanghai.
The Shanghai Sociological Association has a party working group, the Council of the Association, the Academic Committee of the Association, the Investigation and Research Department of the Association, and the Secretariat of the Association. The Association has 13 specialized research branches, including sociology theory and teaching, sports sociology, industrial sociology, foreign sociology, legal sociology, youth sociology, sexual sociology, urban sociology, lifestyle research, literary sociology, residential sociology, foreign sociology, anthropology, and corporate image planning.
The aim of the Shanghai Sociological Association is to take Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Important Thought of the Three Represents, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era as the guideline, and to unite and organize sociological teaching and scientific researchers and social workers in the Shanghai area, to strive for the prosperity and development of China's sociology, and to contribute to the two civilizations of socialism.
The working scope of the Shanghai Sociological Association is to study sociological theories and practical problems of the society, to organize research and hold academic seminars, lectures, consulting activities, in order to serve all walks of life in the society. In recent years, scholars of the Shanghai Sociological Association have achieved a number of high-quality research results in the fields of sociological theory, sociological methodology, family marriage, quality of life, social security, social work, urban development, youth studies, gerontological studies, community studies, studies on social problems and so on.
